The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
