He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
