The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
