Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
