He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
