Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
