And to Thamood their brother Salih; he said, 'O my people, serve God! You have no god other than He; there has now come to you a clear sign from your Lord -- this is the She-camel of God, to be a sign for you. Leave her that she may eat in God's earth, and do not touch her with evil, lest you be seized by a painful chastisement. 73 Remember, how you were made leaders after the people of 'Ad, and were settled on the land so that you could construct on the plains palaces, and carve dwellings out of mountains. So think of the favours of God, and do not act with corruption in the land." 74 The chief of those who behaved proudly among his people said to those who were considered weak, to those who believed from among them: Do you know that Salih is sent by his Lord? They said: Surely we are believers in what he has been sent with 75 Those who were arrogant answered: "We do not believe in what you believe." 76 (Then) they hamstrung the shecamel and defied the order of their Lord, saying to Salih: 'Bring down that which you have promised us if you truly are one of the Messengers' 77 Then the earthquake overtook them, so they became motionless bodies in their abode. 78 Then he [Salih (Saleh)] turned from them, and said: "O my people! I have indeed conveyed to you the Message of my Lord, and have given you good advice but you like not good advisers." 79 AND [remember] Lot, when he said unto his people: "Will you commit abominations such as none in all the world has ever done before you? 80 Lo! ye come with lust unto men instead of women. Nay, but ye are wanton folk. 81 His people had no answer to his remarks but to tell one another, "Expel him from our town; he and his people want to purify themselves." 82 And We rescued him and his household, save his wife, who was of those who stayed behind. 83 And We rained down on them a rain (of stones).
