The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
