Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
