The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ A. L. M. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. On that day the believers too will have cause to rejoice, 4 With the help of Allah, He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; 6 they know but the outer surface of this world's life, whereas of the ultimate things they are utterly unaware. 7 Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land to see how terrible was the end of the people who lived before them. The people who lived before them were stronger than them in might, in tilling, and in developing the earth. Our Messengers came to them with clear miracles. God did not do an injustice to them but they wronged themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
