The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 (Regardless of any Signs these people see), they turn away and say: “This is an ongoing sorcery.” 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
