A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
