Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
