In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
