The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And pollution shun. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
