The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
