Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
