The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
