Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
