Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
