Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life 15
