The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
