Nay, by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 A warning to mankind, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 in Gardens they will question 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
