The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the House inhabited 4 The roof raised high, 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
