The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
