The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 from a fountain called Salsabila. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
