He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
