So they went (their way) until when they embarked in the boat he made a hole in it. (Musa) said: Have you made a hole in it to drown its inmates? Certainly you have done a grievous thing. 71 He said, "Did I not tell you that you would not be able to remain patient with me?" 72 [Moses] said, "Do not blame me for what I forgot and do not cover me in my matter with difficulty." 73 So they set out, until when they met a boy, al-Khidh r killed him. [Moses] said, "Have you killed a pure soul for other than [having killed] a soul? You have certainly done a deplorable thing." 74 ۞ He said: "Did I not tell you that you will not be able to patiently bear with me?" 75 (Moses) said: "If ever I ask thee about anything after this, keep me not in thy company: then wouldst thou have received (full) excuse from my side." 76 So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. And they found therein a wall about to collapse, so al-Khidhr restored it. [Moses] said, "If you wished, you could have taken for it a payment." 77 He said, “This is the parting between you and me; I shall now tell you the interpretation of the matters you could not patiently bear.” 78 As for the ship, it belonged to certain poor men, who toiled upon the sea; and I desired to damage it, for behind them there was a king who was seizing every ship by brutal force. 79 As for the youth, his parents were believers and we feared that he would trouble them by rebellion and denial of truth. 80 So we desired that their Lord might give them in his place one better than him in purity and nearer to having compassion. 81 "The wall belonged to two young orphans in the town whose father had been a righteous man, and a treasure of theirs lay underneath it. So your Lord wanted them to come of age and then to dig up their treasure as a mercy from Him. I did not do [it] of my own accord. That is the explanation of the things about which you were not able to restrain yourself." 82
