۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
