The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
