'Aad denied the messengers 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
