The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22
