Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
