'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
