He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
