The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
