Jonah was certainly a Messenger. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 [The angels say], "Every single one of us has his place assigned: 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 They used to say before: 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
