The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
