He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
