And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
