S (Saad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
SAD. I CALL to witness the admonishing Qur'an. 1 Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. 2 How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape! 3 And they (Arab pagans) wonder that a warner (Prophet Muhammad SAW) has come to them from among themselves! And the disbelievers say: "This (Prophet Muhammad SAW) is a sorcerer, a liar. 4 Maketh he the gods One God? Verily that is a thing astounding! 5 And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it. 6 We have not heard of any such thing in the old religion. This is nothing but a fabrication. 7 What, out of all of us, has the Remembrance been sent down to him (Prophet Muhammad)' No, they are doubtful about My Remembrance, no, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or have they the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower? 9 Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: 10 A defeated host are (all) the factions that are there. 11 Before them (were many who) rejected messengers,- the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes, 12 And [the tribe of] Thamud and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket. Those are the companies. 13 There was not one of them but treated their messengers as liars, so My punishment rightly overtook them: 14
