The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Nuh (Noah) denied (their Messenger) before them, they rejected Our slave, and said: "A madman!" and he was insolently rebuked and threatened. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
