The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
