The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
