The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
