The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they differ? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
