He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
