Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
