The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
