And assuredly We created you, thereafter We fashioned you, and thereafter We said to the angels: prostrate yourselves before Adam; then they fell prostrate; not so Iblis: he was not of those who fell prostrate. 11 Allah said: what prevented thee, that thou shouldst not prostrate thyself, when I bade thee? He said: I am better than he; me Thou createdest from fire, and him Thou createdest from clay. 12 Allah said: 'Then get you down from here. It does not behove you to be arrogant here. So be gone. You will be among the humiliated.' 13 He said: Reprieve me till the day when they are raised (from the dead). 14 Said He (Allah): 'you are among the respited' 15 He said: Now, because Thou hast sent me astray, verily I shall lurk in ambush for them on Thy Right Path. 16 then I shall come on them from before them and from behind them, from their right hands and their left hands; Thou wilt not find most of them thankful.' 17 He said: Go forth from hence, degraded, banished. As for such of them as follow thee, surely I will fill hell with all of you. 18 And "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers." 19 Then Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them that which was hidden from them of their shameful parts. He said, 'Your Lord has only prohibited you from this tree lest you become angels, or lest you become immortals.' 20 And he swore unto them, "Verily, I am of those who wish you well indeed!" 21 So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?" 22 They said, 'Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if Thou dost not forgive us, and have mercy upon us, we shall surely be among the lost.' 23 He said: 'Descend, each of you an enemy to each other. The earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time. 24 He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth." 25
